By far and away from the most ridden trail in Nepal, this short mountain biking adventure takes you into the heart of the Himalaya and rips down some of the best trails in the Lower Mustang region, including the famous Lubra Valley Trail. The route follows the raging Kaligandaki (Black River), famed as being part of the deepest gorge in the world, splitting the massive peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
The upper part of the gorge is also called Thak Khola after the local Thakhali people who became prosperous from trans-Himalayan trade and are famed for their delicious food, apple growing and the making of local Apple Brandy.
Our trail climbs up to Muktinath at the foot of the mighty Throng Pass on the route from the Annapurna Circuit. From here there are many options for some amazing single track and downhill riding, past ancient monasteries and traditional villages. Bump along on cobbled paths and get your feet wet in ice-fed streams. This is surely one of the most spectacular short mountain biking holidays in the world. If you ride with our Team we will take you on trails other companies don’t know to hidden lakes, villages and singletrack descents.
The beauty of this mountain biking trip is that we can custom make it suit all levels of rider, from anyone who can balance a bike to people looking for hardcore enduro style mountain biking in Nepal. In the Lower Mustang Region, there is a huge selection of trails ranging from narrow, rocky single tracks, jungle tree root sections and nice flowing powder trails and jeep tracks.
There is plenty of road access if the uplift is required. It’s just a fun trip where you can sit back, relax and enjoy or you can push hard and rip!
Porters for carrying your bags are included in the price of the trip for the Jomsom section of the trip. So all you will need to carry during the day is a day pack with your personal items for the day. Porters will not always be with you or arrive at the Tea House at the same time as you so make sure you carry a warm jacket with you. Porter allowance is one porter per two people with a load limit of 13kg per person.
Who’s it for? Intermediate fun loving mountain bikers, mountain biking families and people who might be doing their first multi-day trip. Trails are also adaptable for serious bikers with a short amount of time in Nepal. Great for Expats looking for a short getaway.
